Protecting Nature and the Environment

Alex and her Lib Dem colleagues are working hard in Parliament to tackle the climate crisis and to save local ecosystems, launching a wide range of green policy initiatives throughout January.
First was an amendment to the Water Special Measures Bill, proposing protections for chalk stream rivers, 2 of which are in North East Hampshire, to shield them from harmful things like sewage dumping and construction run-off (although this unfortunately did not pass).
Lib Dem MP Max Wilkinson also put forward his 'Sunshine Bill', which would require that all new homes come with solar panels, or a suitable alternative, as standard, reducing both emissions and energy bills.

Finally, Roz Savage MP’s Climate and Nature (CAN) Bill would commit us to reducing emissions in line with limiting global heating to 1.5°C, and to reversing nature loss by 2030 - commitments we’ve already made internationally, but which aren’t yet UK law.
All of these legislative efforts received Alex’s support, and she spoke during the debate on the Sunshine Bill to recognise and praise her constituents’ efforts to make local developments sustainable.
