Alex secures ministerial meeting for local charity

Alex Brewer MP and local children’s charity Harry’s Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust recently met with the Minister for Public Health.

This came after Alex directly called on the minister, Ashley Dalton MP, in the House of Commons, asking her to sit down with the charity in-person. With the Government slow to respond to the charity’s recommendations, it was hoped that this meeting might help the minister understand their importance, and the impact, of hydrocephalus more generally.

In the meeting, Alex supported the charity’s leaders and an expert paediatric surgeon in explaining the importance of more frequent infant head measurements, the charity’s key campaign goal, to the Minister. Alex said afterwards that “Harry's Hat’s CEO and Trustees did a wonderful job of conveying just how important this issue is.”

Having received a warm reception, especially regarding the improved communication of hydrocephalus to parents and health professionals, Alex came out of the meeting hopeful.

Commenting, Alex said: “It's clear that the message of early detection and prevention aligns with the Government's strategy. And with the Healthy Child Programme Guidance being refreshed soon, we are hopeful that this issue will be taken seriously and action taken to improve lives.”
